For the second riff, the note doesn't belong in the scale. You're playing a major scale riff and you modify it slightly. It sounds off because of that.
It's from the song "Come and Let Us Sing", and the chords are G A C G, so technically that note goes with the A chord... but all the other notes, as stated by Andrew, follow the C major, so that note sounds off. I agree.
But now it's switched to Am7, so it works out. Haha... still kinda ticked that nobody backed me up last night, especially all those who were agreeing with me today. I mean, come on...

Check out 2:10/2:20, this was the original w/ the C#... it sounds good, but it has this whole choir/choral thing behind it too... w/ just Joey singing it, sounds SOOO off.
